Light, robust und colourful
Aluminium is the third-most common element in the earth’s crust, however, producing it requires an inordinate amount of energy as it is only exists in a compound form. Having said this, the recycling industry has made it possible to substantially improve the eco-balance of aluminium.
Aluminium is a light metal that is easy to form and draw. When exposed to air, an extremely thin, matt layer of corrosion forms within seconds and protects the metal, making it resistant to damp and light.
When a different colour than its naturally matt surface is desired, aluminium is usually powder-coated. After undergoing a pre-treatment, the metal is coated with a powder that is distributed equally over the surface by means of an electrostatic charge. Then, the powder is baked at temperatures of around 180°C. This process does not use solvents nor heavy metals and offers excellent corrosion protection and an almost unlimited variety of colours.
